Foreclosure bus cures man’s mid-life crisis, helps others find bargain homes
In November, when Marc Joseph celebrated his 40th birthday, he began looking for his mid-life crisis car — a Corvette, maybe a Viper. His wife, Geri, approved. But, as luck would have it, fate intervened. His father, Louis, who had beat cancer, was in HealthPark Medical Center in Fort Myers with a heart ailment that ultimately took his life in April after surgery at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.

Certified service dog allowed in condominium
Q. I am a disabled senior citizen having to rely upon a service dog. The dog is a certified service dog prescribed by a doctor for hearing assistance as well as companionship relative to my sickness. I have all the necessary paperwork for those who have a good need to know. Earlier this year at a condominium meeting, pets were on the agenda. It was decided that no pets are allowed with the exception of service animals, which was correct because service animals are protected by federal and state law. Lately, however, there are about five in my building who say since it is in our bylaws, no pets, my service dog should go. This has devastated me since I have bonded with my dog and rely on him for company. Can a doctor-prescribed certified service animal be prohibited from a Florida condominium? — E.C., Largo

Tough market redefines lowball offer logic
Homebuyers are looking for a steal; home sellers are looking for an out, and homebuilders and banks are selling homes at cut-rate prices. Combined, these conditions have triggered a wave of lowball offers to buy homes in distressed U.S. housing markets.

A house not for mere mortals
EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. — The house is off-limits to children, and adults are asked to sign a waiver when they enter. The main concern is the concrete floor, which rises and falls like the surface of a vast, bumpy chocolate chip cookie. But, for Arakawa, 71, an artist who designed the house with his wife, Madeline Gins, the floor is a delight, as well as a proving ground.
